EDUCATION + AWARENESS
Awareness is a beginning. What matters is what people do with it.
Good learning should help people understand more clearly, think more critically and behave more intentionally.
I design and facilitate education that gives people room to explore complex subjects without reducing them to slogans, compliance exercises or a list of things to remember until the session ends.
The aim is greater understanding, stronger judgement and practical movement: helping people connect ideas to the decisions, relationships and behaviours that shape everyday working life.
WHAT WE CAN EXPLORE
Learning that connects to real life.
Sessions are shaped around the people in the room, the organisational context and what the learning actually needs to achieve.
Areas I regularly work with include:
Equity, inclusion and cultural competence
Building stronger understanding of difference, power, identity and the ways culture shapes people’s experiences.
Bias, assumptions and inclusive thought
Exploring how our thinking is shaped, where assumptions enter our decisions and how we become more deliberate about what we notice and question.
Anti-racism and recognising racism
Anti-racism and recognising racism
Leadership, communication and people-centred practice
Helping people understand how communication, listening, judgement, power and behaviour affect the experience they create around them.
Change, identity and difficult conversations
Creating enough understanding and confidence for people to engage with complexity without shutting down, avoiding the issue or pretending certainty where there isn’t any.
Allyship, accountability and responsibility
Moving beyond intention towards the choices and behaviours that make support, solidarity and accountability visible.
HOW I FACILITATE
Enough empowerment to think honestly. Enough challenge to make it useful.
I don’t believe meaningful learning happens because somebody has been given the correct vocabulary and told what not to say.
People need room to ask questions, notice what they don’t know, examine assumptions and make mistakes without the conversation becoming careless or consequence-free.
My role is to hold that balance.
I bring structure, context and expertise, but also curiosity, humour and conversation. I pay attention to what is happening in the room, not just what is written on the slides, and I’m comfortable slowing things down when something important needs exploring.
The goal is not perfect people leaving with perfect answers. It is people leaving better equipped to notice, understand, respond and practise.

WHAT THIS CAN LOOK LIKE
Education can be delivered as:
standalone workshops and facilitated sessions
deeper learning programmes across several sessions
webinars and online learning
The format depends on the audience, subject and what you want the learning to change.
I’d rather shape the right experience for the people in the room than squeeze every organisation through the same mould.
short awareness or introductory sessions
leadership and management development
sessions embedded within wider culture or consultancy work
FROM AWARENESS TO PRACTICE
A useful session should continue working after I’ve left the room.
That might mean people recognise something they previously missed, understand an experience differently, feel more able to have a difficult conversation, question an assumption or know what they want to practise next.
Education doesn’t solve culture on its own.
But done well, it can give people the understanding, language and confidence they need to take greater responsibility for the culture they help create.
It's then the responsibility of the individual to keep practising - applying their knowledge, and the organisation to make it easy for them to do so.
“Sonia approached everything in such a down to earth and real manner… within the first 20 minutes she managed to break down all of the barriers we subconsciously put up when the topic of race is brought up.”

START WITH THE CONVERSATION
You don’t need to know exactly what the session should be called.
Tell me who the learning is for, what is happening in your organisation and what you want people to understand or be better able to do afterwards.
We can work out the right focus, format and level of depth from there.
If we decide to work together, I’ll set out the proposed content, format, scope and investment clearly before you make any commitment.
